On Writing and AI

writing

All of my writing on my site has been written by me, and some have had a Grammarly or AI pass to further clear up my writing. Some might think this can be left unsaid as these are modern tools of the trade, but it’s not my trade, and I’ve noticed that it feels better to acknowledge these faux pas when we’re using these tools at work.

I’ve enjoyed the practice of writing and have read numerous books on how to write (Some favorites being: On Writing and Bird By Bird), yet I didn’t indulge in this skill I had admired beyond college, and what was needed in professional communication. I’ve been working on deprogramming this “one-shot” mentality that the US schooling system has plagued its youth with. “You only get one shot at the final, so you better do your best and study hard”. It’s embarrassing to think how much of a hold this way of thinking has prevented me from enjoying this creative pursuit. I’ve since broadened my perspective and see how much better it is to tackle life and learning with an iterative approach by lowering the stakes and not waiting for the perfect conditions. Writing is thinking, and while AI can write this post 100x faster than it took me, I still like thinking critically about my beliefs and reasoning with my mind as I learn who I am.

I write because I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.Flannery O’Connor

The unexamined life is not worth living - Socrates

All of this to say, I’ll be writing more here and on other channels. This is my proof of personhood of my posts. I want to share more. I’ve gained so much from others; perhaps it’s time to give back.
